In Greece, the impacts of the ongoing economic crisis are staggering and what is being planned for the future is even more repulsive: more taxes, further cuts in wages and pensions, more privatizations etc. because once more Greece is ‘out of the targets’ set by the Troika (European Commission, International Monetary Fund and European Central Bank).
But some are going to be better off. The foreign corporations will be able to buy assets at a very low price. There are also many new laws to cut workers’ benefits (salaries, regimes of layoff etc.) so that a ’favourable environment’ will be created for these investors, as they can more easily hire & fire cheap labour. Greece is going to be ‘competitive’ again.
This photo was taken from Syntagma, where the indignants gather. You can see the parliament in the background. The message of the young people goes to the rich and powerful of this world. Indeed, these economic games are futile:
“Some people are so poor that the only thing they have is money”
The new generation embodies different values. Life cannot be reduced to any monetary value.
